Grasshopper Blessings
As my sister and I stepped into the backseat of the car driving us to the airport, my eyes landed on a HUGE GRASSHOPPER sitting in the middle of the windshield. Everyone in the car gasped; cell phones whipped out; the grasshopper posed quietly until cameras were put away then he hopped along. I announced that grasshoppers bring blessings and that this one was paying us a special visit to bless our trip. Indeed it was true. We encountered many blessings during our short trip out of town mixed with events at the other end of the polarity.
A blessing is attached to its opposite by nature of a polarity which ranges from minimum to maximum. The opposite of a blessing is an unfortunate event. For instance, when we arrived at our gate to check in, we were met with a sign that read: FLIGHT CANCELLED. Where you place your attention or focus is what is magnified or manifested. Because we were focused on our trip being filled with blessings, a blessing arose. We were put on an earlier flight and arrived at our destination 30 minutes early. This was confirmation that it is a waste of good energy to get all upset, angry or unhappy when things don’t go the way we expect. Relax and go with the flow of life and reap the blessings gifted to each of us.
My life continues to be filled with blessings* in spite of the cascade of events that have descended upon me this year. In March, my mom made her transition; she was ninety. I broke the shoulder of my dominant arm and have been functioning with my less dominant hand while it heals (brushing teeth with left hand, eating with left hand, staring at food I can’t cut). In May, I moved my husband’s office to a new location (major event for me to coordinate and execute with one arm!) Plus, my caretaking activities have increased as my husband’s I.B.M. accelerates. “How do you do it?” a friend asked. My response: I take one moment at a time, listening to spirit for guidance and direction what to do next. I am pretty consistently “in the flow of life” until my ego hits a bump and “loses it” momentarily. As soon as I wake up and become aware, I forgive myself, apologize to whomever and continue.
*The many blessings this year have included a wonderful, caring, caregiver who showed up to take care of George while I was out of town and then became my driver during the weeks I could not drive. Pre-cooked meals from Trader Joe’s and Meals On Wheels made fixing dinners with one arm manageable. Movers showed up when I needed them to help me move my husband’s office quickly and efficiently. When I really pay attention, every day is mixed with events which range from minimum to maximum. Complainers and unhappy people focus on the unfortunate part of a polarity. Appreciators and happy people focus on the blessing part of a polarity.
One thing I love that I have had to temporarily set aside is writing the blog articles. Many ideas arise to write about but time to write these days is limited. As soon as my husband's new office is organized and my dominate hand/arm is healed, I will be able to write more often. Soon, soon, very soon……
Until you return, fill your days with GIGGLES, JOY, and APPRECIATION!
