The Jock and The Beauty
My anniversary is this week. In honor of my husband of 20 years, I am sharing a piece I wrote about our courtship, that I think will delight and make you smile. I call it, The Jock and The Beauty, a magical love story.
Once upon a time there was a big jock football player. He saw his beauty queen from afar and it was love at first sight. With patience and determination, he set out to win her hand in marriage.
His strategy was to keep showing up every Saturday night on her doorstep. He wined and dined her. He took her dancing. He bought her expensive gifts. Week after week, month after month, he just kept showing up at her door.
Every time he saw her he lit up. “You are so beautiful,” he crooned.
She would look at herself in her mirror and wonder what he saw. She didn’t see “beautiful” looking at herself through her eyes.
“You are beautiful,” the jock told her. “You are my beauty queen. Here see for yourself.” He handed her a magic mirror, which would allow her to see herself through his eyes.
“Oh, my,” she gasped. “I see a beautiful woman in this mirror.”
“I know,” said the jock. “It is you.”
“Wow!” she exclaimed. “No one ever said I was beautiful before you.”
“That’s hard to believe. You are radiant with beauty.”
“Well, I do remember a boyfriend once telling me I was beautiful but I didn’t believe him. I thought he was just saying that to make me feel good. I didn’t think it was true.”
“It’s true. You are beautiful and I love you. I want to be with you always. Will you marry me and come live with me?” the jock dared to ask.
“Yes, yes, YES!" she shouted. "I love you too.” And so they were married and began building a life together.
Update: It has been twenty years; they are still married. Their secret? Seeing and accepting the other as they are and loving that. They gave up the fantasy of who they wanted and fell in love with who they got.
Until you return, fill your days with GIGGLES, JOY, and APPRECIATION!

Cute story. The lover can see the potential and the higher self when we can't. We are seeing through our negative eyes.
