Asian Spa Retreat in the Heart of Korea Town
Ladies, if you live in or near Los Angeles, you have the opportunity to experience a bathing ritual right here in southern California that is common in Asia. “The Asian spa retreat is a truly unique eastern philosophy. In the west, a bath is a place one goes to cleanse the body. In Asia, one goes to cleanse the soul.” And what a fantastic experience it is!
Olympic Spa, at 3915 Olympic Boulevard between Crenshaw and Western, is in the heart of Korea Town. Hours are daily 9am – 10pm — sorry guys, women only. Parking is free in the back off Norton. Entrance fee is $15 to enjoy the heated jade floor, hot and cold pools, steam room and sauna for as long as you like.
Pay at the front desk and get your locker key. Now, step through the door into another world. All your belongings go into the locker. Wearing nothing but the pretty lightweight chartreuse covering you are ready to indulge in the relaxing, rejuvenating, replenishing Asian bathing ritual.
Start with the Simple Soak. Step into the hot mineral pool infused with Chinese “mugwort”. Soak for 5 minutes. Step out of the hot and into the cool water pool. Soak for 5 minutes. Alternate between pools, 5 minutes in each, up to 7 times to stimulate circulation, boost immunity, tighten pores and detoxify your skin. Since this was my first experience, the giggles just poured out of me as I hopped from one pool to the other. I loved it! Finish in the hot pool to continue relaxing. Finish in the cool pool to feel rejuvenated.
After the hot and cold water soak, sit in the Clay Dry Sauna or Oxygen & Bichotan Charcoal therapy room. Or get a pillow and relax on the Heated Jade floor. After a couple of hours, you will feel like a new woman. OPEN DAILY. Are you paying attention? All this for $15! You have no excuse for not pretending you are on vacation and enjoy yourself at an Asian spa.
Warning: this is not a “pamper me” spa. The women who frequent this spa are there to take care of their skin. There was lots of body scrubbing going on and they really scrub, removing dead skin leaving the body soft and smooth. Not a place for the shy and timid. There are beautiful female bodies galore in the buff getting down to their earthy nakedness and soul bonding. I recommend going with a friend for a really fun time.
BUT THAT’S NOT ALL! If you want to spend some money, you can book a body massage, foot massage, facial, shiatsu, or body scrub…….. there are many “spa treatments” to enhance your Asian spa experience. If you get hungry, there is a restaurant serving Korean food there too. But if you are on a tight budget, $15 is the least expensive get-a-way I have discovered in Los Angeles. www.olympicspala.com
Will I go again? You bet. By freeway, this spa is only 20 minutes from my house. I am thinking once a month? twice a month? once a week? We’ll see, my initial enthusiasm may exceed my logistical scheduling. If you go, please post a comment here and share your experience with us. Until you return, fill your days with GIGGLES, JOY, and APPRECIATION!

Well, I haven't gone yet, but you sure sold me on it. The Heated Jade floor after the Simple Soak (I love the understatement in that name) sounds delicious. And at $15.00 a visit for the basics, it sounds like a once-a-week thing to me. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks for your comment, Spa Filters. Let me know when you go and if you are as excited about the Asian spa as I am. I have been a second time, and it was heaven!
